Basic Information

KyaO village Associate High School is aspiring to become a full fledged High School and it needs a Science Lab Building to fulfill all requirements.

[A donation from Generosity in Action to the Associate High School in Let Pan Chi Baw village 3 years ago resulted in the latter became a full fledged High School within a year of acquiring the Science Lab Building.]

Location: The school is situated some 2/3 miles from our latest project -- Pyaw Bwe Primary School.

One thing going for this school is that there is no High School in this area so it will be a big boost for the villages & people.

As with all schools in the region, it has a large ground with big trees and with 4 buildings (one smaller for a library) at present.

KyaO village Associate High School has about 500 students attending from around the nearby villages.

The science lab building 30' x 60' ft. with an estimated cost of US$9500.

Bagan still at end of July has yet to receive rains. In lower Myanmar we have very heavy rains since early May.

The start of the construction period cannot be move earlier as March is still tourist season and people have to work, especially the tour rep who oversees the project, was working as a tour guide. The building was finally completed in mid July.

As with the other school buildings donated by Generosity in Action, this time also the village agreed to provide assistance and services necessary for the building of the Science Lab. The villagers provided labor and carry sand and gravel from the river bank, water from the nearby tubewell and the village take the responsibility to feed the carpenters and masons and for the sleeping quarters. It has been your wish all along that the village must be inculcated with a sense of participation of building so that they will continue to care for it in the future. This principle I must say was amply achieved, as attested to by the very efficient and smooth arrangement for the consecration ceremony with the enthusiastic participation of village elders, school teachers and responsible officials. As expressed earlier, this concept has become a very important and integral part of our efforts and one that assures success and a real sense of achievement in all with whom we work with.

Consecration

The consecration ceremony was held at 9.30 AM on 18 July with speeches by the education official and the principal and offerings of the morning meal & donations to the monks, and sermons as is the custom. This occasion was graced by other separate donations from friends in the form of awards to students who pass 10th Standard in the previous academic year and distribution of school uniforms to 35 needy students

Good News

The good news is that education officials who visited the school during the period of construction was very pleased with the achievement of the school and have promised to grant the school full fledeged High School Status once the Science Lab building is finished.

This process of elevating the status is expected to be complected within a year or so. We all who participated in the implementation of this project is very gratified with this news as the main purpose of the donation is being realized. Hope all the donors will be happy to know about this.

Construction of the Science Lab/Media Room Building at Kya-O Associate High School was begun on 1st April 2009 and was targeted for completion early June. The school teachers and the village elders and our representative calculated that 2 months should be sufficient time to do the construction work. But due to matters beyond their control, such as longer time for the building materials and timber to be delivered to the site, and excessive heat in Bagan during the summer approaching 40 C plus, during which time the masons and carpenters were unable to work, the construction period took longer than expected.
